“We often seem to think more about what others think of them, and therefore we are more cautious. – This can shape whose voices are heard and whose ideas remain unspoken.”

On March 8th, we mark International Women’s Day. We spoke with several of our female researchers about the issues they face in their daily work:

💬 “I have seen how men accept opinions or instructions much faster coming from another men than from a woman as well as the lack of representation of women in higher position in the work place.”

💬 “I have had to justify myself more often, whereas men in similar situations simply say ‘no’ or ‘I’ll just do it’.”

💬”Specifically in science it often leads to bias in datasets, overlooked pupulations or incomplete discussions.”

💬 “About our T-shirt, our hair & our body: Quite often women are somehow reduced to their outer appearance.”

💬 “Choosing to become a mother: The biggest barrier in several countries for women in science is that maternity leave is not usually recognized in research because we usually work per project with short-term or no contract at all.”

Let’s continue to support and promote strong scientific contributions — independent of the biology of the researchers behind them.
