Third-Party Funded Research (Projects)
Affiliated Research Projcects
CESOC’s research is shaped by a wide range of third-party funded projects, from national initiatives to large European collaborations. These projects embody CESOC’s interdisciplinary approach, connecting Earth system science, computer science, and high-performance computing.
Highlights include:
- Collaborative Research Centres (DFG):
- CRC 1502 DETECT – Regional Climate Change: Disentangling the Role of Land Use and Water Management (since 2022), led from the University of Bonn with contributions from CESOC partners.
- Profilbildung Project: HESCOR – Human & Earth System Coupled Research (2023–2027), integrating Earth sciences, human system science, archaeology, and machine learning.
- AlgoForGe Research Unit (DFG): advancing algorithmic data analysis for geodesy, linked closely to CESOC.
- BMFTR & Helmholtz Projects: WarmWorld, HClimRep, and RAINA, pioneering machine learning for weather and climate forecasting, in close collaboration with ECMWF and DWD.
- EU Horizon Project WeatherGenerator: developing AI foundation models for weather and climate applications.
CESOC also contributes to initiatives of ECMWF, DWD, and the IDEA S4S network, and is actively preparing new collaborative proposals.
