Abstract

The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Weather of the 21st Century is a consortium of Australian Universities investigating weather change. This is the idea that climate change is ultimately weather change given that it is statistical aspects of weather systems that comprise the climate. By switching this perspective to weather and weather systems, the Centre aims to unlock new insights about how climate change will affect our world.

A key area of research in the Centre is investigating weather resources, which are the aspects of weather that provide socio-economic or environmental benefit. With an initial focus on renewable energy, water and tourism and recreation, the Centre is working closely with industry to use process-based approaches to identify these weather resources, and to investigate how they might change with climate change.
